Congratulations to Debbie Shaw, overall winner of the ladies race at the Forestman Iron Distance Triathlon for the second year in succession. Backed up by top 3 places for Brian Henderson (3rd M45) and Mike Billups (2nd M50) and a top half finish for Steve March in his first iron distance race, this was an impressive result for the club. Well done to all.

National Elite Silver for Lucy, Bronze for Ellie

Congratulations to Lucy Chittenden and Ellie Walton (Farnham Tri/East Street Cycles) for gaining silver and bronze medals respectively at the National Elite Duathlon Championships on Sunday at Loughborough.

Junior Female

In what looks like a well paced race, Lucy came out of a group of four battling for 4th place on the opening 5k run into T1 to post the fastest 20k bike split, and after a quickfire T2, clocked the second fastest closing 2.5k run to take second place and a silver medal, less than a minute behind the winner.

Youth Female

Another strong 10k bike leg saw Ellie move from fourth after the opening 2.5k run to second coming out of T2. Despite being overhauled for the silver nearing the finish of a suspiciously long looking 1.25k second run, Ellie comfortably held onto 3rd for a bronze medal.

April Club Sprint Race Cancelled

Unfortunately the first club sprint race of the season, scheduled to take place on 18th April, has had to be cancelled due to the ongoing work at Farnham Sports Centre. The committee considered using an alternative swim location, bike and run routes but concluded that there was insufficient time to measure and appropriately risk assess a venue from the options available. We will therefore be holding a duathlon instead from the same venue and date over the standard distances of 4km run, 28km bike, 7km run.

With the likelihood of further delay to the refurbishment, the club sprint race scheduled for May is also in jeopardy, although the committee will endeavour to source a suitable alternative location and route by that time. Subsequent events will be dealt with on a race by race basis.

Finally, it is hoped to host the swim section for the Ironman Training Weekend from the Lord Wandsworth pool in Long Sutton. Stand by for further announcements.

Tristars Duathlon 21st February 2010

The second Tristars Duathlon took place at Wavell-Cody Campus on Sunday 21st February 2010. The adult race had to be cancelled earlier in the day due to the inclement weather and safety concerns on the roads. Seven tough athletes aged from 10 to 15 years old shrugged off the cold winter air and tough biking conditions on a grassed field. They all completed run laps according to their age group and then hopped on their bikes for laps around the Wavell-Cody campus. The indoor bike ‘turbo’ training had clearly reaped dividends for some, as the biking stamina of several athletes had clearly improved. With tired legs the last challenge was a shorter run section and all the athletes finished their distances tired but elated.

Box Hill Knacker Cracker - New Year's Day

FTC's Barnaby Gray started 2009 on a winning note with victory in the Longmoor Lollop and repeated the feat in 2010, this time in the notoriously hilly Box Hill Knacker Cracker, labelled Britains Toughest 10k race.

Barnaby's winning time of 49mins 10secs saw him finishing nearly half a minute clear of the second place man.

The performance was made even more impressive as Barnaby completed the race in fancy dress!

Also racing for Farnham were Ian and Alexandra O'Brien and Tom Rogers. Full results can be found on the results page.
