"Awards for All" Grant
On the 11th February 2004 Farnham Triathlon
Club were awarded an "Awards For All" lottery grant of £4,960 with the aim of
"improving and enhancing the coaching available to its members".
"Awards For All"
is a Lottery grants scheme aimed at local communities. Grants are awarded of
between £500 and £5,000.
"Awards For All" is a national programme operating through nine regional offices in England. Our award has come from the South East Region office.
The aims of "Awards For All" are to:
Extend access and participation by encouraging more people to become actively involved in local groups and projects, and by supporting activities that aim to be open and accessible to everyone who wishes to take part;
Increase skill and creativity by supporting activities which help to develop people and organisations, encourage talent and raise standards;
Improve the quality of life by supporting local projects that improve people's opportunities, welfare, environment or local facilities, for example through voluntary action, self-help projects, local projects or events.
Club Coaches
We have made much progress over the past few years in growing the coaching at the club. However, we still have much to do to in order to provide regular, good quality coaching across all three disciplines. Over half the grant will go towards expanding the number of coaches as well as improving existing coaches qualifications.
We currently (Feb 2004) have six BTF 'Level One' assistant coaches and one 'Level Three' senior club coach. The money we have set aside in the "Awards For All" grant will go towards providing coaching courses for a further three 'Level One' assistant coaches. Further more, three 'Level Two' coaching courses have also been provided for in the grant. Hopefully, by the end of 2004 we will have a coaching staff of ten members within the club (1 x level 3, 3 x level 2 & 6 x level 1) providing a broad range of coaching and advice in most aspects of triathlon.
All of our current six 'Level One' coaches compete in triathlons themselves. Fitting coaching in with the demands of training, racing and all the other daily needs is difficult. This will mean that we will be able to provide more regular and varied coached sessions throughout the season. If you wish to qualify as a coach for FTC then please send an email to info1@farnhamtri.org.uk.
Equipment
We aim to buy the following coaching equipment with the remainder of the "Awards For All" lottery grant in order to enhance and assist the coaching: Training videos and DVDs; coaching and training books; digital video recorder with waterproof cover for swim video analysis (above and below water) as well as cycling and running video analysis; two heart rate monitors for use in fitness assessments and coached training sessions; waterproof stopwatches for timing during training and racing; running steps, jumps & ladders for improved run coaching, and two turbo-trainers for use in bike fit set-up as well as coached turbo-training sessions.
